Does anybody actually believe it? It all began when a local vendor call you up because the regional sales manager just came into the town, to demonstrate their newest smart microprocessor based equipment.

They will give you the catalogs which are just collection of pictures and buzz words complete with 32 digits model number that completely describe the off the shelf version. Eventhough the catalogs are enourmous, they don't give enough information to determine whether the instruments will fit your application.

Vendors have a different outlook on the job. They are not worries of whether an instrument will actually work. Because they are rarely get out into the field. Since very little data is ever gathered on the actual performance of instruments. Any problem relayed js usually discounted as being caused by poor installation.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07464018984220652780noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4377011303640615235.post-46650643584934916972015-11-08T17:46:00.000-08:002015-11-08T17:46:53.866-08:00Most of my pictures were deleted by imageshackFirst, I would like to say I am sorry for the inconvenience. It had been years since the last time I checked the my blog and I've just realized that most of the schematic pictures on my blog had been deleted by imageshack.

Well, the joke's on me to put a lot of my pictures on free image hosting website and not making a backup files for those pictures. I dont think I can update all of those pictures that were missing on my blog. deep down, I feel a deep sense of resentment about this. But what can I do, its their website after all.

First you must define success, if success for you means all of the benefits, prestige, company reputation, job security that available in the large corporation. Then you should try to become the brightest candidates who are ready to play the corporate game for your raises and promotion.

The not so bright engineer like me on the other hand should not become disheartened, and go from the lowlife engineer on the early shift of start-ups to being and consultant after a golden handshake (or silver handshake, depending on the amount of money involved).
It is interesting to note that the design engineers are considered expendables. The goals of the project, which are fast and cheap installation are increasingly emphasized over the functional and reliable installations.

In the last throes of a engineering department, man-hours and money were cut from the projects. Who cares if the installation doesn't work ? After all, the cost to fix an application is charged against expense and not against capital.

Furthermore, if man-hours were reduced on all projects, the number of engineers, the support groups could also be cut. Who cares if there is no one left to do the work? The project can always be contracted out.

Such departments are self destruct, and when such organizations dissapear completely, Who are the ones left to turn out the lights?Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07464018984220652780noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4377011303640615235.post-59488272781573899032013-12-08T17:14:00.001-08:002013-12-09T00:14:43.341-08:00Birthday and Life Expectancy Calculator

It has the same basic component and refrigeration cycle.
- Compressors
- Condensers
- Expansion Valves
- Evaporators

- Acid Gases (CO2)

- Acid Gases (Sulphur Compound)
- Mercury (Hg)
- Water (H20)
- Heavy Hydrocarbons (C5+)

Why those contaminants usually need to be removed?
- Acid Gases (CO2)
CO2 freezes on low temperature (below - 50 degC), it may blocked the equipments
- Acid Gases (Sulphur Compound)
Total Sulphur compound shall not be more than 100 grains /Nm3 in LNG plant
- Mercury (Hg)
Mercury (in the presence of water) damages aluminum properties
- Water (H20)
Below 20 degC, water and hydrocarbon will form solid substance called hydrate which very difficult to remove
- Heavy Hydrocarbons (C5+)
C5+content in LNG shall be no more than 0.1% mole

Contaminants limits:
CO2 < 100 ppmv (freezing and equipment plugging)
H2S < 4 ppmv (sales gas specification)
H20 < 1 ppmv (freezing and equipment)
HG 0.01 micro gr/Nm3 (corrosion in aluminum)
The DP level transmitter indication is a measure of the head pressure in the level of the tank whose level is to be detected. Head Pressure, DP, is calculated as DP = (Height).(Specific Gravity).

For example, let's say 50% level is displayed in the control room, the specified SG = 0.8. The DP transmitter is actually measure a differential pressure (50%)*(0.8) = 40 units of the differential pressure.

Now, what if the SG change. maybe because the liquid aerated, or the feed to the vessel has become lighter. For some reason, the SG has dropped from 0.8 to 0.6. The real level will increase to 66.67% (40/0.6) but the indicated level in the control room is still 45% because the DP output is constant at 36 units of DP.

This is happened because DP level transmitter cannot discriminate between height and density. This is something to worry about. The defective level transmitter can cause liquid overflow and vapour cloud explosion can be ignited if ignition source available in adjacent area.
Gas Conditioning Unit varies from a small station that handle 10 million SCFD to a big station that process 500 Million SCFD.

Wells scattered throughout the remote regions, and then carried by export line to the processing unit. Liquid are separated from gas. The liquids consist of salt water and condensate. The condensate is collected to oil refinery, where the condensate is blended into gasoline. The water is removed and then injected back into the ground in disposal wells.

The gas pressure varies from a few psig to thousands. Wells may contain H2S. The temperature may be over 200 degF and the BTU content ranges from 1000 to 1400 BTU scfd.

The gas will flows to a Knock out drum to removed entrained liquids, the filtered to removed sand and corrosion products, compressed and scrubbed with amine solution to remove H2S.

By circulating ethylene glycol system. Gas is dehydrated. The gas is dried so it will not precipitate water at temperature down to -35 deg F. After dehydration, ethane, propane, isobutane, butane and gasoline is recovered. The propane is sold as LPG, butane is blended into gasoline, isobutane becomes a feedstock for refinery alkylation unit and ethane is used to a chemical ethylene unit.
The gas is traded on its BTU content. Flash Gas Compression"The condensate separated in the Liquid separator is stabilize by the condensate stabilization unit.
To recover the flash gas from the condensate stabilizer column and overhead of liquid separator, Flash gas compressor is installed for the compressing and recycling the gas to inlet of slug catcher.

Flash gas compressor is horizontal multistage cylinder balanced opposed type reciprocating compressor. These compressors are driven by 160 kW induction motor through a direct rigid coupling.

First, the gas flows to Flash Gas Compressor Scrubber to be scrubbed and condense any liquid from the gas stream.

The gas is then compressed by 1st stage flash gas compressor then the discharge gas cooled down from 116 deg C to 80 degC by 1st stage flash gas after cooler. After that condensed liquid is separated in the 2snd stage flash gas compressor suction scrubber prior compression by 2nd stage flash gas compressor to 48.5 barg. The compressed flash gas is cooled down to 90 degC by 2nd stage flash gas after cooler prior delivering to the slug catcherAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07464018984220652780noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4377011303640615235.post-49631318160597162852013-06-19T19:06:00.000-07:002013-06-19T20:28:25.646-07:00The Logic Behind The Magic." - Flow Metering system
- Gas Chromatograph
- Miscellaneous component, like isolation valve, tube JB, etc.

One of the options is utilizing senior orifice meter. The flow meter is designed and constructed in accordance for AGA Report No 2. To compesate the flow readings, Pressure and Temperature transmitters are provided on each stream.

The capacity of each flow meter is based upon the plant throughput capacity, Three orifice plates are supplied for each stream to provide the maximum possible accuracy during turndowns in gas sales.

An Online gas chromatograph is installed to continually measure the sales gas composition. The componens to be measure are C1 through C6+, CO2, and N2. The gas chromatograph analyses the gas and transmits the composition data to the individual stream flow computer. The stream flow computer will compute the GHV of the gas being supplied.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07464018984220652780noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4377011303640615235.post-35692736352639546052013-06-18T18:00:00.000-07:002013-06-19T20:28:53.947-07:00The Logic Behind The Magic." Water vapour from the shell side of the TEG reflux condenser passes through the shell side of an 8.36 kW double pipe type TEG Vent Exchanger before letting it go to the acid flare system. Water vapour is heated up to 150 degC by the hot oil passing through the tube side of the TEG vent exchanger for this purpose. The temperature of water vapor of the acid flare is controlled by an FC TC cascade control loop.

Stripping Gas Column

The use of Stripping gas column is provided to reduce the water content of the regenerated glycol by counter current contact with hot fuel gas flowing upward through the stripping gas column. The stripping gas also reduces the partial pressure of the vapour in the TEG reboiler. Hence increasing the regeneration capability of the TEG reboiler. Regenerated glycol flows from the bottom of the stripping gas column by gravity into the hairpin type Hot Lean Rich TEG exchanger where it is cooled to approximately 124.8 degC and then goes into the other haipin type Cold Lean Rich TEG Exchanger where it is further cooled to approximately 85.55 degC.

TEG Accumulation Vessel
Lean glycol from Cold Lean/Rich TEG exchanger is sent to the TEG accumulator vessel. The TEG accumulator vessel is sized for a 22.3 minutes residence time between low-low liquid level and high-high liquid level, of lean glycol at pump maximum capacity (33 USgpm). The TEG accumulatoe vessel provides storage capacity for the TEG circulation pumps.

TEG Circulation Pumps
The TEG circulation pumps are rotary gear type pumps, operating at normal discharge pressure of approximately 52.06 Barg. The lean glycol from the discharge of the TEG circulation pumps is sent to the 235.8 kW TEG cooler,

TEG Cooler
The TEG coller is an air cooler where the lean glycol is cooled to 48.25 degC and sent to the TEG contactor for re-use. 2x5 kW fans are used to cool the lean TEGAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07464018984220652780noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4377011303640615235.post-50602439964566171322013-06-09T17:27:00.000-07:002013-06-17T17:44:45.375-07:00The Logic Behind The Magic."

TEG Reflux Condenser

TEG Reflux Condenser is located at the top of the TEG Still column and used to maintain the temperature of the steam leaving for condenser. Rich glycol flowing through the TEG reflux condenser coils is warmed to 49.48 degC by steam and glycol vapour present in the steam is condensed on the shell side.

Cold TEG Exchanger

Rich glycol from the TEG reflux condenser is sent to a hairpin type 210.1 kW, Cold TEG exchanger where it is warmed by counter flow of lean glycol to approximate 87.78 degC before entering the TEG flash drum for most effective separation and removel of dissolved gas and liquid hydrocarbons.

TEG Flash Drum

In the TEG Flash drum the dissolved hydrocarbons are separated from the glycol. Separated gas is passed through a mesh pad to remove entrained liquid before leaving the TEG flash drum. The the gas is sent to LP flare header under pressure control. A fuel blanketing is provided to suplement the gas flow, if necessary to maintain vessel pressure.

TEG Catridge Type Fine filters

Rich glycol from the TEG flash drum flows into the TEG Cartridge type fine filter. Solid particles are removed from the glycol by the cartridge filter. If these particles are not removed. They may damage the liquid trims, plug the TEG still column packing and cause foaming in the TEG contactor.

TEG Activated Carbon filter

Rich glycol from TEG Cartridge type fine filter is sent to the activated carbon filter, sized for 5 m3/hr flow. The activaed carbon adsorbs the dissolved hydrocarbons contained in the rich glycol. This can be very benificial in redicing the heat load on the reboiler, and reduce glycol carryover and vaporization losses in the reflux column due to foaming of the hydrocarbons. The rich glycol flows into 485 kW hairpin type Hot Lean/Rich TEG exchanger.

Hot TEG Exchanger

The filtered rich glycol from TEG Activated Carbon Filter is preheated in the 485 kW hairpin type Hot TEG exchanger through heat transfer with the outpoing lean glycol from the stripping gas column. The hot rich glycol the flows across the TEG flash drum level control valve into the TEG column. The level control valve is located downstream of the hot TEG exchnger in order to maintain back pressure on the exchanger and minimize vapour regeneration within the exchanger.

Stripping Gas Column

The Stripping gas column is packed with 0.194 m3 random packing over a height of 1500 mm. The normal case condition should not require stripping gas to reduce the water content. The stripping gas would be used in emergency only. The stripping gas is provided to reduce the water content of the regenerated glycol by counter current contact with hot fuel gas flowing upward through the stripping gas column. The stripping gas also reduces the partial pressure of the vapor in the TEG reboiler. Regenerated glycol flows from the bottom of the stripping gas column by gravity into the hairpin type hot lean/rich TEG exchanger where it is cooled to approximately 124.8 degC and then goes into the other hairpin type cold lean/rich TEG exchanger where it is further cooled to approximately 85.55 degC Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07464018984220652780noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4377011303640615235.post-16477873807529058802013-06-04T18:08:00.001-07:002013-06-17T17:45:14.437-07:00The Logic Behind The Magic." Glycol Dehydration System 1"Sweet gas from Amine Overhead KO drum will flows to Triethylene Glycol Contactor where it will have its water contect reduced by contact with triethylene glycol solution. The Glycol unit consists of Glycol Contactor and Glycol Overhead Knock Out Drum.

Triethylene Glycol Contactor.
Sweet gas from Amine Overhead Gas Knock Out Drum is sent to the Glycol Contactor through the integral scrubber for removing free liquids, water and hydrocarbon condensate from the gas. Incoming gas is evenly distributed over the cross sectional area by an inlet distributor. In this distributor, inlet momentum of gas-liquid mixture is broken to enable disengagement of gas from liquid. The integral scrubber consists of mist eliminator to remove the free liquid present in the incoming gas. It is designed to operate at 45.16 barg at 43.85 - 444.25 degC. The hydrocarbon liquids from the separator leave from the bottom of the vessel. The flow is controlled by an LV

After the removal of free liquids, the gas enters the absorber section, Chimney trays are provided for proper distribution of the gas through the column. Dehydration of the gas takes place across height structured packing, against a counter current flow of lean Tri-Ethylene Glycol.

The dehydrated gas leaves to of the column passing through vane pack, mesh, and mist eliminator are provided to remove glycol before leaving the tower. The glycol is ditributed across the packing with high efficiency liquid distributor. As the glycol flows down the surface of the structured packing, it absorbs water from the gas. Rich glycol is collected on the top of the chimney tray and is discharged under level control valve LV to the TEG reflux condenser. Located in the TEG regeneration package.
