Typical Oil and Gas Production Process
Wellhead and Manifold
The production system begins at the wellhead. For high pressure wells, adjustable choke valve with to determine the flow rate. to reduce risk. Shutdown valve and block valve should be installed and so that the maintenance can be perform on the choke.
Manifold is necessary to be installed to allow flow from any well into any test production facilities.
Separation
Produced wellhead fluids are multicomponent mixture of hydrocarbon liquid and gas.
Separator where mainly designed for mechanically separate liquid hydrocarbon and gases at specific temperature and pressure.
Separators are classified as "two-phase" if they separate gas from the liquid stream and three pahase if they also separate the liquid stream into its crude oil and water components
Oil treating
Oil tank should have a pressure/ vacuum valve with flame arrestor and gas blanket to keep pressure and exclude oxygen.
Oil will be present at the surface of oil tank and the water exist from the bottom either through water leg or an interface controller
Compressor
Compressor are used to flow gas from a lower pressure to a higher pressure system. Compressor are used to compress the gas for sale or on long pipelines to restore pressure drop lost to friction.
Oil Meter
Oil is typically sold trough oil meter, which is designed to meet API standard and other additional measuring and sampling standards are required by purchaser. The value for the crude oil is typically depend on its gravity, BS+W content, and volume. Therefore oil meter is not only measure the volume accurately, but also continuously monitor the BS+W content and sample of gravity.
